Pakistani buyers cannot use PayPal, and most local debit cards are declined on Chinese platforms unless international transactions are enabled. Options that work: a Visa or Mastercard with international use switched on (for Alibaba and AliExpress), a bank TT for large orders, or paying a Pakistan-based sourcing agent in rupees who pays the Chinese seller for you. For one item, the agent route is the only way to buy from 1688 or Taobao at all.
Why do payments to China fail from Pakistan?
- PayPal does not operate in Pakistan. You cannot open or fund a PayPal account with a Pakistani identity.
- International transactions are off by default on most Pakistani bank cards. The bank declines any foreign merchant until you enable it.
- PayPak cards are domestic only and never work abroad.
- Chinese consumer platforms (Taobao, 1688, Pinduoduo) accept only Alipay, WeChat Pay and Chinese bank cards.
- Fraud filters on both sides flag a first-time purchase from Pakistan to a Chinese merchant.
Which payment methods work, by platform?
| Platform | What works from Pakistan | What doesn't |
|---|---|---|
| Alibaba.com | Visa / Mastercard via Trade Assurance, bank TT | PayPal, JazzCash, Raast |
| AliExpress | Visa / Mastercard with international enabled | PayPal, PayPak, local wallets |
| Taobao, 1688 | Nothing directly; agent pays with Alipay | All foreign cards |
| DHgate, Banggood | Visa / Mastercard | PayPal, local wallets |
| Direct to a factory | Bank TT (wire) to company account | Personal accounts, Western Union |
How do I enable international transactions on my card?
Each bank differs, but the pattern is the same: open the mobile app, find the card settings, and switch on "international" or "e-commerce" transactions, often with a daily limit. Some banks need a call to the helpline. Do this before you try to pay, because a declined attempt can trigger a temporary block. Also make sure the card is a Visa or Mastercard, not PayPak.
Is a bank transfer (TT) to a Chinese seller safe?
Only to a verified company account for an established supplier, and usually only for larger orders. Pakistani banks require an invoice and purpose for an outward remittance, and the process takes days. Never wire money to a personal account or to an account whose name does not match the seller's company. For a single item, TT is rarely worth the paperwork.
How does paying through a sourcing agent work?
You pay the agent in Pakistan, in rupees, by bank transfer, Raast, JazzCash or Easypaisa. The agent pays the Chinese seller with Alipay or a Chinese account. This is the only way to buy from Taobao or 1688, and it also works for Alibaba and AliExpress links.
- You pay one amount, once, before the item ships. That amount is the whole price, including the agent's fee, which you are told upfront.
- No foreign card, no declined payments, no currency conversion on your side.
- The risk shifts from you to the agent, who deals with the seller.

What payment scams should I avoid?
- A seller asking you to pay outside Alibaba or AliExpress "to save fees". That removes your protection.
- Bank details that change by email mid-order. Confirm by voice or video before sending anything.
- Western Union, MoneyGram or crypto requests from a "factory". Legitimate suppliers do not ask for these.
- Agents who will not break down their price or who ask for payment to a personal account with no business name.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use PayPal in Pakistan to pay Chinese sellers?
No. PayPal does not operate in Pakistan. Use a Visa or Mastercard with international transactions enabled, or pay through a sourcing agent in rupees.
Why is my card declined on AliExpress or Alibaba?
Usually because international transactions are disabled on the card, or the card is PayPak. Enable international use in your bank app and retry.
Can I pay Chinese sellers with JazzCash or Easypaisa?
Not directly. Chinese platforms do not accept Pakistani wallets. You can pay a Pakistan-based sourcing agent with them, and the agent pays the seller.
How do I pay for a Taobao or 1688 item from Pakistan?
Through an agent. These sites accept only Chinese payment methods. The agent buys the item and you pay the agent in rupees.
Is it safe to pay a sourcing agent before the item ships?
It is normal practice, and safer than paying an unknown Chinese seller, provided the agent is transparent about the full price, has a business identity, and you can reach them on WhatsApp.
