Importing Camera and Photography Gear From China to Pakistan

By importfromchina.shop teamUpdated October 3, 20267 min read
Quick answer

Yes. Lenses, tripods, gimbals, LED lights, microphones and accessories from Chinese brands such as Viltrox, TTArtisan, Godox, Zhiyun, SmallRig and Ulanzi can be imported one at a time from China to Pakistan. Devices with built-in batteries ship by air normally; loose spare batteries and V-mount packs are restricted. Customs duty applies on the landed value, warranty is grey-market, and drones are a separate problem that needs prior permission.

Can I import one piece of camera gear from China?

Yes, and it is a sensible category for a single import. Chinese photography brands have become serious: Viltrox, TTArtisan, 7Artisans, Laowa and Meike make lenses; Godox, Aputure, Amaran and Neewer make lighting; Zhiyun, Hohem and DJI make gimbals; SmallRig, Ulanzi and Tilta make rigs and accessories; Saramonic, Boya and Hollyland make audio. Many of these are sold in Pakistan only through a few shops at a premium or not at all, and the China price is typically lower. The things to understand are batteries, duty, warranty, and the one item you should not order: a drone.

Batteries: built-in is fine, loose is not

This single rule decides what you can order. A gimbal with its battery sealed inside, an LED panel with a built-in battery, a wireless microphone system with batteries inside the transmitter, or a camera body with its battery installed are all devices with contained batteries, and air carriers accept them on standard routes. A spare camera battery in the box, a pack of NP-F batteries for a light, a V-mount or Gold-mount pack, or a power bank are standalone lithium batteries, which are restricted by air and need slow special lines or sea freight. So:

  • Order the device alone, with the battery that is inside it.
  • Buy spare batteries locally in Pakistan.
  • For lights that take removable batteries, ask the seller to ship without the battery, or choose a mains-powered version.

Lenses, tripods, filters, bags, cages and cables have no batteries and ship without any special handling.

What duty applies to camera gear?

Photography equipment is dutiable by HS code, with lenses, lighting, tripods and electronics each in their own slab. Additional customs duty, sales tax at the standard rate and advance income tax apply on the customs value including freight. Valuation rulings exist for some camera equipment, so customs may assess a minimum value. Combined taxes on imports commonly fall between 25 and 60 percent of customs value and change with each budget, so confirm the current rate for your item. There is no duty-free threshold for parcels. The customs duty guide explains the calculation.

Warranty, firmware and compatibility

Gear bought from Chinese platforms carries the maker's China warranty, honoured in China. Where a brand has a Pakistani distributor, that distributor generally will not service grey imports, or charges for repairs. Some Chinese brands offer international warranty on specific products and handle claims by post from any country, which is worth checking on the brand's website for the exact model. For lenses and tripods, which rarely fail, most buyers accept the risk. For a gimbal with motors and electronics, or a wireless audio system, weigh it more carefully. Also check firmware: some China-market versions ship with Chinese menus and update through Chinese servers, while the international version has English. Ask for the international version.

A lens must also match your camera's mount: Sony E, Canon RF or EF, Nikon Z or F, Fujifilm X, Micro Four Thirds, L-mount and so on. Listings sell every mount on one page and the seller sends whatever is selected, so specify the mount in writing. The same applies to gimbal payload, filter thread sizes, shoe fittings and microphone connectors. Check compatibility on the maker's website.

Tripods, stands and bulky items

Air freight is charged by weight or volumetric weight, whichever is higher. A travel tripod is compact and ships well. A heavy video tripod, C-stand, large softbox or light stand kit is long and heavy, and freight can approach the item's price. Sea freight needs around a cubic metre to be economical, so it is not an option for one stand. Reflectors, backdrops and diffusers are light but large, so check the folded dimensions. For bulky lighting support, compare against the local price before importing.

Drones are a different story

Drones need prior permission to import into Pakistan and are routinely held or confiscated by customs. This applies to camera drones of every size. Do not order a drone from China expecting it to arrive. Action cameras, 360 cameras and handheld gimbal cameras are fine, as long as the battery is inside the device. What commonly goes wrong?

  • Wrong mount. The lens arrives for a different camera system. Specify in writing.
  • Battery held. A spare pack in the box stops the whole shipment.
  • Fake accessories. Filters, batteries and memory cards with brand names at low prices are often counterfeit, and counterfeits are seized.
  • Chinese firmware. Menus in Chinese on the China-market version.
  • Used gear sold as new. Second-hand listings are common; used electronics are restricted for import, so prefer new from official stores.

How does a single-item service handle camera gear?

Send the listing link on WhatsApp with the mount or variant and tell us about any batteries. You get one price in rupees within 24 hours covering the item, air shipping, Pakistan customs and our fee, stated upfront. You pay once before it ships, and it is delivered to any address in Pakistan in 7 to 15 days after dispatch, with nothing to pay at the door. We handle one item per order, not kit for a rental business, and we will say plainly if an item cannot travel by air. For other electronics, see importing PC parts from China to Pakistan.

Frequently asked questions

Can I import a camera lens from China to Pakistan?

Yes. Lenses have no battery and are not restricted. Duty and taxes apply on the landed value. Specify the exact mount in writing because listings cover several mounts.

Can a gimbal or LED light with a battery ship by air from China?

Yes, if the battery is built into the device. Loose spare batteries, NP-F packs, V-mount packs and power banks are restricted and should be bought locally.

Is there warranty on camera gear imported from China?

It is a China warranty. Pakistani distributors generally do not service grey imports. Some Chinese brands offer international warranty on specific products, so check the brand's site for your model.

Can I import a drone from China to Pakistan?

Not without prior permission. Drones are routinely held or confiscated by customs. Action cameras and handheld gimbal cameras are fine.

How much is customs duty on photography equipment?

It depends on the HS code for the item. Duty, additional duty, sales tax and advance income tax together commonly add 25 to 60 percent of the customs value. Confirm the current rate because it changes.
